Day After Elections 2006

Cnet reports on a sampling of e-voting glitches that occured. They have a quote that I like.  Rawstory also has a  page summarizing about the voting problems.

“We got five machines–one of them’s got to work,” said Willette Scullank, a trouble-shooter from the Cuyahoga County elections board

The cases of voter suppression in Virginia is being investigated by the FBI. Also there is a reward of $250K for more evidence of this voter suppression.

CNN has a good summary of the elections, Democrats have control of the House and potentially the Senate. Alternet has a video and summary of Olbermann’s latest special comment regarding the elections and checks and balances.

There is a frikkin great video on youtube called “The Best War Ever” by some guys who wrote a book with the same title. It totally slams Bush! Also there is a good kids book called “Why Mommy is a Democrat“.

GOP Voting Hijinks

Net neutrality could be a hot issue after the elections according to computerworld because there are representatives on both side of the issue. Past attempts have failed because of the Republicans weren’t convinced that it would benefit themselves. Hopefully with a more partisan representation the legislature will actually support pretend to support the will of the people instead of their pocketbooks.

Gov. Rick Perry (Tx) recently said that he believes that all non-Christians are doomed to hell. So much for keeping your beliefs to yourself. Whatever happened to separation of church and state? In case you hadn’t heard Rick, America needs make friends with the non-Christians and this sort of news isn’t helping.

He also probably believes that God must exist because of Bananas.

dailykos has news of voters in Virginia getting harassed and threated with jail time if people don’t vote Republican. I guess they figure that now everyone has found out about how easy it is hack elections the only way left is to threaten voters. We have seen similar actions from the RIAA.

dailykos also tells us of GOP candidate who used the Emergency Alert System to play an ad.

In an apparent violation of FCC rules, conservative talk radio station KFBK 1530 AM in Sacramento transmitted a paid political advertisement to an unknown number of other stations in the area, using the Federal Emergency Alert System (EAS), thus automatically forcing the ad onto the stations’ airwaves. This is according to a press release issued today by KDVS-FM, a non-commercial community station in Davis that received and inadvertently aired the transmission.

Necon (FOX) news can’t read polls apparently. They decided to report that even thou Nick Lampson is leading by 8% that their candidate is in the lead.

Dear Sony

I just wanted to warn you ahead of time that given the chance, I WILL Wii on your PS3!

Fascist America

(taken from the website)
My fellow Americans, it’s official now: We live in a fascist nation.

Now, the term “fascist” has been thrown around over the last fifty years in a loose way that has drained it of much of its meaning. If someone wanted to cut 5% off of a leftist professor’s favourite welfare programme, the professor would call his opponent a “fascist.” I’m not using the word like that. I mean honest-to-goodness, old-fashioned, 1930s style fascism, featuring such old favourites as:

* Secret prisons – they’re back!
* Torture – we’re doing it.
* Spying on all citizens.
* Arrests and indefinite imprisonment without trial.
* Rampant militarism.
* Secret detention.
* Enforced disappearance.
* Denial and restriction of habeas corpus.
* Prolonged incommunicado detention.
* Unfair trial procedures.

Man Arrested for Critizing Cheney

Rocky Mountain News: Local

According to the lawsuit filed at U.S. District Court in Denver, Howards and his son walked to about two-to-three feet from where Cheney was standing, and said to the vice president, “I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible,” or words to that effect, then walked on. Ten minutes later, according to Howards’ lawsuit, he and his son were walking back through the same area, when they were approached by Secret Service agent Virgil D. “Gus” Reichle Jr., who asked Howards if he had “assaulted” the vice president. Howards denied doing so, but was nonetheless placed in handcuffs and taken to the Eagle County Jail.

This guy deserves every penny. He didn’t assualt the vice president. It is clear that Cheney doesn’t like to hear negative commentary about his decisions to kill thousands of Americans to make himself rich. How much do you think Haliburton stock is worth now that they recieved hundreds of billions dollars from no bid contracts. It is a _fact_ that Cheney still holds massive amounts of Haliburton stock. Whether he will benefit from the stock profits or not is not clear.

Bush Urges Congressional Approval of Eavesdropping Program

Bush Urges Congressional Approval of Eavesdropping Program

In opposing the bill on grounds it would give the White House too much power to carry out warrantless eavesdropping, Feingold told the panel, “The president has basically said: “I’ll agree to let a court decide if I’m breaking the law if you pass a law first that says I’m not breaking the law.” Feingold added, “That won’t help reestablish a healthy respect for separation of powers. It will only make matters worse.”

Bush to Congress: “Please give me permission to keep breaking the law.”
