The Mac programs like iChat and Mail aren’t exactly free because you pay for the operating system when you buy a new Mac, but they are included with the operating system, so assuming you paid for OSX you will have them. Also it is interesting to note that wikipedia has a good comparison of text editors.

Photo Organizer OS X: iPhoto, after all if you are going to adding in iChat to the list mine as well add in a good photo app that comes with the OS. Unless you are using Photo Organizer as a category to do web albums in which case I repeal my argument.

Text Editor – Bluefish?? Bluefish == IDE. Bluefish != text editor. As evidenced by this http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/screenshots/main_win.png picture there is a crap load of extra icons that take up space (not to mention are useless) when editing configuration files, something EVERY text editor should be able to do with out causing issues. Now with the installation of Macports (http://www.macports.org/) the use of gedit makes editing text with a GUI cleaner as evidenced here http://www.gnome.org/projects/gedit/images/gedit1.png (show running on Linux) while keeping the option for syntax highlighting for editing code and freeing up valuable screen space.

“I am open to suggestions, let me know your thoughts on my selections.” That was my thoughts, take a second look at the apps i mentioned as they might surprise you
